Historical Perspective

Earlier this year, Professor Courtenay Bartholomew, MD, an internationally well-known Marian scholar as well as HIV-AIDS medical researcher, released an exciting and timely new book, The Last Help Before The End of Time, that carries the Imprimatur of the Most Reverend Edward J. Gilbert, CSsR, Archbishop of Port of Spain, West Indies. This title implies not the end of the world, but rather the end of an era in salvation history.

Prof. Bartholomew writes:

During World War I in July, 1917, Our Lady asked at Fatima, Portugal for the consecration of Russia to her Immaculate Heart. During World War II in July 1940, through the highly respected Belgian Franciscan Tertiary, visionary and stigmatist, Berthe Petit, respected alike by Popes, Cardinals and Bishops of her time, Our Lord Himself requested the entrustment or consecration of the world, not only to the Immaculate Heart, but to the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary.

In accordance with the messages given by Our Lord to Berthe Petit (1870-1943), on May 31, 1915, eight days after Italy entered World War I, Pope Benedict XV addressed all the bishops of the world. He said, “Let us appeal with confidence to the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary that by her powerful intercession she may obtain from her Divine Son the speedy end of the war and the return of peace and tranquility.”

In 1920 Our Lord said to Berthe: ” ‘Immaculate’ was My gratuitous gift to her as My Mother. ‘Sorrowful’ she acquired for herself by her sufferings with Me from the Crib to the Cross and should precede the title ‘Immaculate’. ” During World War II, in June 1940, Our Lord said to Berthe Petit: “Recourse to My Mother under the title and invocation I wish for her universally, ‘Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us,’ is the last help I shall give before the end of time.

This title intimately links the co-suffering of the Mother of the Redeemer and the Man of Sorrows from the Crib to the Cross and supports the request of millions of the faithful throughout the world for the Fifth and final Marian dogma: Mary Co-redemptrix (not co-equal), Mediatrix and Advocate.

This book by Professor Bartholomew provides the historical framework on which The Foundation of the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary is built. It is strongly recommended that all those, who have followed closely the messages of Our Lady of Emmitsburg, read it and share the importance of this new and exciting book with all who will listen. It historically lays out God’s development of Our Lady’s plan throughout this last century to the present and provides the prophetic framework on which so much of the future is rooted.

Before she died Our Lord had previously prophesized to Berthe Petit: “My apostle (of this devotion) will arise at the predestined hour when the appalling cataclysm which approaches (World War III?) will have upset all the present calculations of mankind and their deplorable policies.” Dr. Bartholomew ends this book with a question to our new Pope Benedict XVI, “Are you, in the spirit of Pope Benedict XV, the one (the apostle) to consecrate the world to the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, or shall we expect another?”

In May, 2005,a full-page ad for Professor Bartholomew’s new book was on page 2 of the monthly magazine INSIDE THE VATICAN, an issue devoted entirely to Pope Benedict XVI.
